Jon Bailey
Director of Percussion / Assistant Band Director
Platte County R-3 School District
Hello! I am the Percussion teacher for the PC Band program, and will be teaching at PCHS, PCMS, and PPMS this year. I have been teaching percussion and band in Platte County since 2008.
Platte County Percussion is a well-established program with many years of success and accolades. Members of this ensemble have earned countless district and state level honors, and many have gone on to perform with elite University music programs across the country. Our marching percussion (Drumline) sections have received numerous awards, and our concert ensembles consistently receive superior ratings at music festivals.
Students in PC Percussion receive a well-rounded percussion education, beginning in the 6th grade. Each new year brings new skills and new instruments to learn! By the time students leave middle school, they have experience with snare drum, 2 & 4 mallet marimba playing, timpani, orchestral accessory instruments, drum set, and marching percussion. They are able to use these skills in a variety of ensembles at the high school level, including percussion ensembles, drumlines, jazz ensembles, and concert bands.
Each May, the percussion program presents their percussion showcase concert, drum! This fundraising concert features all members of the percussion program (6-12) and is a real hit with the community! This concert is traditionally held on the first Friday in May. The 2023 date is May 3rd
If you have any questions please feel free to reach out! E-mail is best, since I am often traveling between schools. I'm happy to help with instrument selection, stick/mallet requirements, practice tips, private teachers, or anything else you can shake a stick at!
